AECOM has been appointed design partner for the Warkworth to Te Hana project in New Zealand, working with ACCIONA as lead contractor. The appointment was announced by the firm on 31 August 2026. The project is Section One of three roads on the Northland Corridor Program, a new 100 kilometre motorway connecting Auckland to Whangarei, and it will upgrade the existing State Highway 1 to a higher standard motorway.

He said the firm had brought together transportation, engineering and design specialists from across New Zealand, Australia and its global business to support delivery, and that with the expertise of the transport agency, the lead contractor and its design partners this gave an outstanding platform to deliver infrastructure that will improve how people and freight move, support economic growth and bring lasting benefits to Northland communities.

Russell Jackson, interim chief executive of the firm's global transportation business, said the selection reinforced its reputation in transportation engineering services, described the 100 kilometre project as a major investment in New Zealand's transport infrastructure and economic growth, and said the firm looked forward to partnering with the lead contractor.

The announcement states that the project forms Section One of three roads of national importance along the broader Northland Corridor Program, and that the completed motorway will connect Auckland to Whangarei over 100 kilometres.
