Costain has been appointed by Northumbrian Water to the Living Water Enterprise, a strategic infrastructure upgrade programme worth up to about 670 million pounds to Costain over fifteen years and supporting the AMP8 investment cycle. This senior quantity surveyor post sits in the commercial function, which the employer describes as accountable for controlling commercial risk, liability, exposure and opportunity across all its trading relationships, and covers the combined sewer overflow programme through its life. The duties named are the ones a contracts practitioner will recognise: issuing accurate, timely and compliant notices and correspondence, raising contractual and commercial risk with the contract leader, preparing and agreeing applications for payment or assessing and preparing payment certificates, and maintaining registers of variations, delay, extension of time and claims. Monthly progress valuations and consistent application of the company's commercial policies complete the brief. The postholder may work alone, manage a small commercial team, or report to a more senior commercial appointment.
