Pre construction commercial work for an Irish main contractor, based at the employer's Carroll's Quay office in Cork and reporting to the estimating manager. The brief is the anticipated cost of a prospective project rather than the production of it. The holder receives the tender documents and circulates them, issues subcontract and material enquiries with scopes of work and attendance schedules, chases returns, and raises tender queries with the wider tender team. Gaps in the tender are developed and filled, clarifications and estimator notes compiled, and a risk schedule and an opportunity assessment produced alongside a value engineering schedule. Prices returned by the supply chain are analysed. The settlement documents are then produced with clear net costings that identify the risks and the opportunities, and the submission is completed, including the form of tender, bills of quantities and the associated commercial information. That risk and opportunity work is the part which later decides how a claim runs. A construction degree in engineering, quantity surveying or construction technology is required, with six years or more in estimating or quantity surveying, and working knowledge of the common estimating packages.
