What the role covers

A cost management appointment on a large, multi-phase advanced manufacturing construction programme in North Phoenix, Arizona, covering mechanical scopes on complex facilities, utility infrastructure and process systems. The posting names HVAC systems, cleanrooms, process piping and process cooling water systems as the mechanical work the holder prices and controls. Duties run from cost planning to final account: developing and maintaining cost plans, budgets, forecasts and cash flow projections; preparing, reviewing and reconciling estimates through every design and construction phase; estimating, evaluating and negotiating change orders with change control and cost reporting; and negotiating and agreeing final accounts. The holder coordinates and validates contractor pricing, supplier quotations, subcontractor proposals and quantity take-offs, and performs cost checks, audits, valuations and benchmarking. Cost impact assessment, contingency analysis, risk tracking and commitment management for mechanical scopes sit with the role, as does watching labour market conditions, material pricing and supply chain movement for cost and programme risk. Monthly cost reports and client presentations are named. The employer asks for a degree in quantity surveying, construction management or engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and three or more years in cost management, quantity surveying, estimating or commercial management in construction. Experience of industrial, manufacturing, semiconductor, pharmaceutical or data centre projects is sought. No salary is published and no closing date is given.
