What the role covers

A contract administration appointment in Canberra on large scale building projects. The posting sets the work at head contract level: liaising with the client on progress claims under the head contract, preparing head contract variations, and assessing subcontractor variations. Financial duties named are the preparation of cost forecasts, monitoring the financial status of the project, preparing cash flow statements, and providing input to the financial reports that go to the executive management team. On procurement, the holder prepares the tender documentation for engaging subcontractors, which the employer lists as tender and pricing schedules, scope of works, comparative tender analysis and the recommendation that follows it. The holder is also expected to keep site supervisory staff aware of the project scope and of what each tender package includes, and to maintain the working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and consultants. Qualifications sought are a tertiary qualification in building, construction management, civil engineering, quantity surveying or a similar discipline, with solid experience as a contracts administrator or quantity surveyor on large scale building work. The employer asks for an understanding of the commercial and legal issues arising under head contracts, a working knowledge of the major building trades, negotiation and influencing skills, and experience of tender processes and trade procurement.
