What the role covers

Secretariat is recruiting an Associate for its Construction Delay team in London. The team, as the advert describes it, is made up of engineers, project managers, architects, schedulers and accountants engaged in delay analysis on large building, infrastructure, power and utilities and oil and gas projects. The Associate's work falls into four parts. Research and fact finding means reviewing technical and non-technical documents: construction schedules, engineering drawings, reports, correspondence and weather data. Data analysis means interpreting large datasets to find trends, anomalies and the potential causes of cost and schedule overruns. Quantification means applying analytical methods to measure the delays on large construction projects. The fourth is assisting with the drafting of expert reports for use in arbitration. The firm asks for a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or a related discipline and at least two years of post-graduate work experience, ideally in engineering and construction, with professional services experience an advantage. Strong Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills are required. Experience of planning software such as MS Project, Asta Powerproject or Primavera is an advantage, as is an understanding of the relevant industry protocols and fluency in another language. Excellent written English and an aptitude for explaining technical matters to a non-technical audience are asked for, and the holder should be able to travel, generally under fifteen per cent of the time. No salary and no closing date are published.
