Adjudication timetable: what this calculator produces
This calculator derives the principal procedural dates in an adjudication from the date of the notice and the periods which govern the reference. Adjudication is conducted to short periods which differ from one case to another, and for that reason the periods are entered by the user rather than assumed by the calculator.
The user enters the date of the notice of adjudication, followed by the appointment target, the referral period, the response period, the decision period and any extension agreed between the parties. Those period fields remain editable by design, because the applicable provisions, the rules governing service and any agreed extension differ between the statutory scheme, the adjudication clause of the contract itself and any bespoke amendment to it. Where the adjudicator has issued directions, the periods in those directions are the ones to be entered.
Five dates are returned, each accompanied by the calculation which produced it. The appointment target and the referral deadline are calculated from the notice date, whereas the response target and the decision deadline are calculated from the referral deadline rather than from the notice. Finally, the extended decision deadline is the decision deadline together with the extension agreed between the parties.
A worked example loads a complete set of figures so that the arithmetic can be followed before any project date is entered, after which every figure is to be replaced with the evidence from the matter in hand.
The outputs are diary dates and nothing more, since the adjudicator's jurisdiction and directions govern the live timetable and nothing produced here displaces them. Against the dates it produces, the calculator lists the records to be checked, namely the notice, the referral, the application to the nominating body, the appointment, the adjudicator's directions, the submissions, any extension agreement and the evidence of service.
