What the role covers

This post supports cost on large life science construction projects and programmes from Houston, and the monthly reporting cycle is the spine of it. Every project is progressed each month and checked for accuracy and consistency of data, with milestone planned value and earned value reported alongside percentage complete and written commentary on each project. Cost control covers budget, forecast, work in progress and actual expenditure. The holder attends project status meetings, reports on the status of major materials, updates the forecast against what is discussed, summarises performance metrics and gives project teams and management direction on the project controls questions that arise. Contract administration is part of the post as advertised, listed as retention, terms and conditions, insurance, allowances, contingency and incentives, and change orders are tracked and reviewed with the project management and cost management teams. A record is kept of scope changes, trends and variances that may affect performance, and monthly reports go to management. Controls under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act may attach to the role. Five to seven years of applicable experience are asked for, with a degree in construction management, cost management, quantity surveying or engineering, advanced spreadsheet, report writing and presentation skills, and Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
