What the role covers

This post supports large commercial and mixed use construction in New York, including high rise developments, corporate headquarters and urban development programmes. The duties run from strategy to final account. Before contract the holder advises the client on strategy, prequalifies vendors, assesses proposals, bids and bid levelling documents, chairs bid interviews and manages the appointment process. Estimating sits with the post: project estimates covering construction, fees and direct work, review of estimates prepared by junior members of the team, presentation of value engineering recommendations and risk assessments to the client, and challenge of vendor costs against benchmark data from other projects. After contract the work is cost reporting to an agreed schedule, a commercial risk register, review of payment application assessments, recommendation of contractor entitlements to project managers, and assessment of vendor requests for change orders. The posting names dispute prevention, management and resolution procedures as the way payment requisitions, change orders and contractual disputes are handled, and gives the holder the final accounting process, post contract audits and account close out. Three to five years in a cost management role are asked for, with a degree in construction management, cost management, quantity surveying or engineering, and accreditation by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors treated as valuable.
