Canada departure planning should cover notice, final salary, bonus, expenses, tax slips and employment records. Check permit expiry, employer records and family status before setting final travel. For the home, serve notice, document condition, close utilities, return keys and agree deposits or prepaid rent.

Prepare the Toronto departure register before giving notice on banking or housing arrangements. Leave the Canadian account capable of receiving final salary, tax refunds and returned deposits until each amount clears. Export school, medical, employment, insurance and tax records while local authentication still works. Close or transfer telecoms, insurance, tenancy and vehicle obligations against dated records from the responsible organisation.

Set the Toronto departure date from controlling records
Start with the employee's last working day, notice period, permit conditions, permit expiry, family-member records and intended destination. An employer-specific permit identifies the employer and may state work location, occupation and other conditions. Ending the assignment does not by itself rewrite those conditions. Obtain current IRCC guidance before changing employer or continuing work.
IRCC's changing-employer guidance says a worker who loses the job connected to an employer-specific permit and wants to continue working must follow the applicable process. It also says that a person unable to obtain a new offer must leave Canada by the 'must leave by' date on the permit. Apply that instruction only to the worker's actual document and circumstances; never create a travel deadline from the employment notice alone.
Check every family member separately. Record the last lawful activity, travel documents, school commitments and any application or decision still open. Put the employer, immigration and travel dates on one checklist, but preserve their different sources. Where they conflict or remain unclear, keep the item unresolved and obtain an authoritative answer before booking a non-refundable journey.
End the Ontario tenancy through the proper route
Read the signed lease and the current Ontario termination guidance before giving notice. The standard lease guide says a tenant ending a monthly tenancy normally gives at least sixty days' notice and that daily or weekly tenancies normally require at least twenty-eight days. The end date and form must satisfy the applicable rules. Never assume that the final day of a fixed term ends the tenancy automatically.
Serve notice through the stated lawful method and retain proof of delivery. Record final rent, treatment of the last-month rent deposit, keys, access devices, condition, utilities and forwarding details. A deposit, refund or claimed deduction stays open in the ledger until the amount has been matched to the agreement, payment records and written response.
Keep repair, entry or eviction disputes separate from ordinary checkout. Ontario says a landlord must use the proper written notice and obtain an order from the Landlord and Tenant Board before an eviction. If a disagreement continues after travel, preserve the documents and obtain appropriate advice rather than recording the tenancy as cleanly closed.
Close employment pay and project access
Request the employer's written final-pay statement covering salary, approved expenses, deductions, leave treatment, incentive or retention amounts and any relocation recovery. Compare each line with the contract and prior payroll records. Record expected and received dates separately. Never count an unpaid claim as departure cash merely because it appears in an internal approval system.
Return physical passes, devices, documents and project property through the employer's process, and obtain a receipt where appropriate. Remove personal material from permitted devices without deleting corporate records. Construction project information may remain confidential after the assignment, so the household departure archive should contain employment and payment records without copying client or project files.
Stop recurring local travel or work payments only after the final journey and claim have been reconciled. Preserve personal copies of the employment documents and payslips needed for lawful tax, immigration or employment matters. Remove employer and relocation access to household accounts when their authorised purpose has ended.
Manage school withdrawal and education records
Read the accepted school's current withdrawal policy before fixing the last attendance date. The York School's published 2026/27 terms state that there is no refund of its first CAD 7,500 instalment after 30 January 2026, that one half of the second instalment is refunded for withdrawal from 1 May to 30 June, and that no tuition is refunded after 31 August. Those dates apply to that stated school year and never establish another school's position.
Give notice through the school's required route and obtain a written account. Reconcile tuition, incidentals, meals, transport, devices, library items and any employer reimbursement. Record a possible refund only as pending until the school confirms the amount and the bank receives it. Ask the employer how a non-refundable education cost is treated under the assignment terms.
Collect reports, course and examination records, transfer documents and agreed support information through the school's process. Confirm the receiving school's requirements before requesting unnecessary personal material. Keep immigration and travel records with the family file, but never send it to a school unless the admission or transfer process requires it.
Maintain health and banking continuity after travel
Check the household's OHIP eligibility and employer cover against the actual departure and employment dates. Identify unfinished claims, prescriptions, clinical follow-up and destination cover. Request records through the provider's process with the patient's consent. A health card or an open claim does not prove continuing cover after residence or employment circumstances change.
List every credit expected after departure: final salary, tax documents, rent balance, school refund, health reimbursement and service adjustment. Keep the Canadian account only where its terms allow the new address and the outstanding items justify it. Tell the bank about the address or status change through its current secure route and retain the response.
Before closing cards or accounts, cancel unwanted mandates, remove obsolete payees and reconcile pending transactions. Confirm that funds have reached the intended destination before treating a transfer as complete. Keep the minimum statements and receipts needed for unresolved payments or lawful reporting, then remove shared or relocation-only access.
Reconcile the final Toronto departure model
Enter confirmed final salary, received deposit or rent balance and received school refund as separate inflows. Enter housing overlap, travel, shipping, temporary lodging and other departure costs as separate outflows. The calculator's result is a cash comparison based on those entries. It is not a tax computation, final entitlement or prediction that a disputed sum will be paid.
Run a base case using confirmed amounts and a downside case that excludes unresolved recoveries. Keep foreign-exchange rates and bank charges as dated transaction assumptions where the household will transfer money. Never net a Canadian-dollar credit against a foreign-currency cost without recording the conversion actually used.
Close each line only against a bank credit, receipt, statement or written decision. Keep an exceptions register after physical departure for final salary, tenancy, school, health and account matters. Assign an owner and review date, and preserve access to the lawful process needed to resolve it without retaining unnecessary project or personal data.
Issue a final Toronto close-out statement
Prepare the Toronto departure statement from the current work-permit record, Ontario tenancy notice, school balance, OHIP or insurer position, Canadian bank access and confirmed travel. Give every open payment or refund its own reference and supporting document. The file remains open until requested Canadian records and money have been received or a dated written outcome states why they will not be.
Give payroll, the landlord, school, insurer and bank only the forwarding information each legitimately needs. Keep client and project contacts outside personal forwarding unless a continuing authorised purpose exists. Remove employer and relocation users from household systems after the final handover.
For the Toronto departure account, reconcile freight, storage, air travel, temporary housing and destination setup with the Canadian invoices and bank entries. Keep insurance records for loss or delay. Replace a quotation in the departure model only when the actual invoice or paid amount is available.
Review the exception register after the first destination bank cycle. Match final salary, rent or deposit balance, school credit and health reimbursement to the original Canadian-dollar amount. Record any conversion rate and charge separately rather than changing the expected source amount.
Hold destination accommodation and essential spending outside unreceived Toronto refunds. The downside case should fund arrival without a disputed credit and should identify the next review for every Canadian receivable. A favourable calculator result does not guarantee that money will arrive before travel.
Archive the Toronto departure statement only after every listed item has a written outcome and the related Canadian account entries reconcile. Close obsolete Canadian access and remove unnecessary copies of identity and health records. Preserve personal employment records without retaining confidential construction project material.
Protect destination arrival from delayed Toronto receipts
Fund destination accommodation and essential spending without relying on an unreceived rent balance, school credit, final salary or expense claim. Give every expected Canadian amount a reference and next review date. Test email, bank and account access before the Canadian mobile service ends, then remove obsolete payment routes only after the destination account and post-departure communication work. Keep a dated copy of the final exception register with the household records.
Toronto final check
For a time-limited permit, record the employer-specific conditions, expiry and any family-member dependencies before fixing travel or a new employment plan. Obtain current IRCC guidance for a change rather than assuming that notice from the employer changes status automatically. Keep the permit record, employer response and travel records together while protecting confidential project material.
Close the Ontario tenancy using the actual notice and agreement, then reconcile last-month rent, keys, condition, utilities and any lawful balance. Retain the Canadian bank account only where its terms permit the later address and expected payroll, tax, school or service credits require it. Match every received amount to the original ledger before recording the Toronto file as closed.
After physical departure, keep an exceptions list for final salary, tax documents, school credits, health claims, utility balances and account transfers. Give each a reference and next date. Close an item only when a statement, receipt or written response agrees with the original amount and the funds have reached the intended account.
