Choosing a school in Singapore

International school names, fee levels, waitlists, curriculum fit and school-run timing.

Practical city guide

Shortlist

Singapore has strong international school choice, but places, curriculum and location need early testing. A popular school can be unsuitable if it creates an impossible commute.

Shortlist

Build the Singapore school shortlist from the child's age, curriculum, campus, calendar, admissions stage, sibling treatment, support needs, examinations and daily journey.

Singapore has strong international school choice, but places, curriculum and location need early testing. A popular school can be unsuitable if it creates an impossible commute.

Named schools

Use each Singapore school's dated fee schedule only for the child's stated year group. Check application, enrolment, capital, bus, meal, uniform, technology, trip and examination charges with admissions before paying.

The named schools in this guide sit at the higher end of planning. Families should also compare smaller international schools and local options where eligibility and curriculum fit.

Admissions records

Prepare the Singapore admissions file with passports, pass records where requested, school reports, vaccination records, learning-support material and any required transfer certificate.

Admissions files commonly include passports, passes or pending-pass information, reports, references, vaccination records and learning support records.

Daily travel

Test the Singapore school run with drop-off, collection, activities, MRT or bus changes and the parent's actual office or site hours. A nominally nearby campus can still make the household timetable unworkable.

Older pupils should check IB, A level, IGCSE, AP or national curriculum transfer carefully. The wrong entry point can cost more than the fee difference.

Employer support

For each Singapore school invoice, record whether the employer pays directly, reimburses later, caps support, excludes extras or delays eligibility.

Employer support can exclude application, enrolment, building levy, technology, meals, bus, uniform and examination charges. Confirm the reimbursable items.

Singapore working checks

Do join waitlists early and keep fee schedules. Never assume admission because a relocation package mentions schooling.

Never assume January or August entry will be available. Application timing and waitlists should drive the family arrival plan.

School-cost tool

The calculator annualises tuition and adds application, registration, transport and extras.

The school-cost tool should include one-off fees because they affect arrival cash even if the employer reimburses annual tuition later.

Singapore document checklist

Tanglin Trust School; British-based international curriculum; check entry year, waitlist and capital items.

UWCSEA; IB-linked pathway; check campus, grade availability and application timing.

Dulwich College Singapore; British and international curriculum; check bilingual, bus and extras.

Commute; School-bus timing and MRT or taxi route should be tested before tenancy.

Create one Singapore admissions profile per child

Prepare one Singapore admissions profile for the child with date of birth, present year, curriculum, subjects, languages, reports, examination route, support needs and intended start. Give that same profile to each named school and ask for its proposed grade and campus. Record enquiry, assessment, waitlist, conditional offer and accepted place as separate stages with their own dates and payment consequences.

Check curriculum continuity subject by subject, especially after secondary courses begin. Ask what options actually run and whether mid-year entry is possible. Preserve the written response. A school can use a familiar curriculum label while offering a different sequence, examination board or subject combination from the child's present school.

Use the current named fee year and actual grade

Tanglin publishes 2026-2027 annual fees from S$36,300 to S$58,080 by year group, inclusive of its stated GST treatment, and lists separate application, enrolment and capital-levy amounts. Use only the row matching the child. The UWCSEA and Dulwich ranges in the dated record require a final current-page check before any payment.

Create lines for tuition, application, assessment, enrolment, levy, deposit, transport, uniform, device, meals, trips, examinations and learning support. Record whether each amount is refundable and when billed. Never describe the lowest published figure as the family budget where the child is older or the school applies different entry charges.

Map advance billing against employer support

Tanglin's current page describes advance term billing and asks new pupils for acceptance and other payments before starting. In the Singapore school record, read the chosen school's own schedule and put every invoice on its date. For the Singapore school check, then map the employer's annual cap, eligible items, invoice requirements and reimbursement timing. When reviewing Singapore school, a full annual benefit can still leave the family funding a large early payment.

Keep direct school payment, reimbursement and cash allowance as different routes. Record employee payment and later employer credit separately. In the Singapore school record, if support depends on active Employment Pass or family status, show that dependency. For the Singapore school check, never commit a non-refundable amount merely because the package mentions education without defining the child, school, charge or payment date.

Test the school, home and work triangle

Plot the exact campus, proposed home, office and construction sites. Use the LTA journey planner for school opening and collection times, including station exits, bus connection and final walk. Add activities and the parent's site attendance. A short rail journey can still fail the timetable when transfers and collection rules are included.

Price school bus, public transport, taxi and emergency collection separately. Record each Singapore school's authorised collection process and its procedure when a pupil arrives late. Never assume an employer taxi account or project travel arrangement covers the school run. Review the plan during business travel and after-school activities before signing the tenancy.

Prepare admissions, medical and support records

Ask the school for its current checklist and prepare passports, pass records where required, reports, transfer records, vaccination information and any assessment material. Check names and dates throughout. Provide only the certified, translated or other form actually requested. Never apply a generic international-school document rule when the admissions team can specify the current requirement.

For medical or learning needs, ask what the school can provide before accepting. Preserve agreed adjustments, emergency contacts, medication procedures and collection permissions. A general place offer does not confirm specialist support. Keep sensitive child information within approved school and family channels rather than a general employer relocation file.

Protect the family if timing changes

Read offer expiry, deferment, withdrawal, refund and notice terms before payment. Ask what happens if the Employment Pass, Dependant's Pass, housing or project start is delayed. Keep the school's written response. Never rely on an informal assurance where the family may lose application, enrolment, levy or tuition money.

Maintain one workable alternative with a known curriculum, admissions status, fee year and journey until the chosen place and family travel are stable. Track every application charge and close unwanted cases clearly. A second option should be real and recorded, not a school name saved from an old list.

Reconcile every school payment and employer credit

Before paying, match invoice, pupil, grade, term and charge to the accepted offer and current schedule. Verify beneficiary details through the school's official channel. Tanglin's page itself warns parents to check the recipient and payment reference. Never follow an unexpected account change without independent confirmation.

After payment, retain receipt and update the employer claim. Track deposits and credits outside tuition. Compare actual transport, meals and activities after the first term with the budget. Preserve the original case and explain changes. The calculator compares cash only; it cannot decide admissions probability, educational suitability or safeguarding.

Prepare records and money for the next move

At enrolment, record withdrawal notice, report, transfer, examination and deposit procedures beside the fee schedule used for the offer comparison. The records register for Singapore schools includes current tuition, GST treatment, application fees, enrolment fees, capital levy routes and billing dates, so the family should keep the chosen school's published fee page or fee schedule with the contract file. Before leaving, ask the destination school what it needs and request Singapore records early. Reconcile tuition, transport and employer-funded amounts. Never assume a final report or refund appears automatically when attendance stops.

Keep lawful copies of reports, examination entries, support plans, payment clearance, levy payments and the latest invoice. Where the employer reimburses school costs, separate one-off application or enrolment charges from annual tuition and transport so the final reconciliation does not mix joining costs with continuing costs. Confirm last attendance, transport cancellation, records transfer and any records required for the next school. Close the file only when school withdrawal, records transfer, employer reconciliation and refund each have records. Re-run the annual calculator if the family remains for another fee year, because fee schedules and billing dates may change.

Check grade placement and examination timing

Ask each school to confirm age cut-off, proposed grade, subjects and examination route for the intended start. For an older pupil, record coursework and examination entry already completed. Never assume that two international schools place the child identically or can accept a mid-course transfer without academic consequence.

Put the likely next country and move date beside the choice. Ask how reports, references and examination records will transfer. A school can suit the present term but create a difficult later transition. Preserve the admissions team's answer and discuss educational decisions with the appropriate professionals rather than relying on a cost table.

Manage school transport and collection permissions

Record bus route, pickup, journey duration, supervision, missed-bus procedure and annual charge from the chosen school or provider. Compare it with public transport and parent collection. Never assume the school bus serves every condominium or that its timetable accommodates activities and early site work.

Keep authorised collectors and emergency contacts current. Test a backup route before it is needed. Price late taxi and holiday care separately where relevant. The annual school calculator includes cash values only and should not hide a timetable that one parent cannot sustain during project deadlines or business travel.

Run a first-term school review

Compare fee schedule, invoices, payments, employer credits, transport and extras after the first term. Identify amounts that were one-off and those likely to recur. Replace calculator assumptions with records while retaining the original case. Never carry a refunded or credited charge into the next annual budget.

Review curriculum fit, support delivery and the school journey separately from money. Put the next billing, notice and employer-claim dates in one calendar. Close unresolved payment or support queries before the next advance invoice. A clear record prevents a second large payment from arriving without cash or approval.

Record the limits of the school comparison

The calculator compares two entered annual cash cases after confirmed support. It does not assess place availability, academic quality, safeguarding, curriculum fit or travel. A lower figure cannot make an unsuitable or unavailable school workable. Keep decision records beside the arithmetic.

Use current fees only for the matching grade, school and academic year. Label extras and support by source or assumption. Leave an unknown amount blank instead of borrowing a charge from another school. Re-run the case when the actual offer and invoice arrive. Preserve each school's dated schedule and the employer support record used for the entered case.

Keep a child-specific document checklist

Number the enquiry, admissions response, assessment, offer, accepted terms, fee schedule, invoice, receipt, transport record and employer claim for each child. Never combine siblings into one line where grade, charge or status differs. Store sensitive reports and support information securely and limit access to those who need it.

Review the index before every payment and term. Mark withdrawn options and received refunds without deleting prior records. Another authorised parent should be able to identify the confirmed place, next due date, collection route and unresolved support issue without relying on messages held only by one person.

Check the next invoice before its due date

Compare pupil, grade, term, tuition and extras with the accepted schedule before every payment. Verify the beneficiary and payment reference through the school's official instructions.

Raise differences before the deadline and preserve the reply. Update employer support and household cash only after the invoice and reimbursement route are confirmed.
