Choosing a school in Doha: fees, admissions and daily travel

Start with the Ministry's licensed-school search, then inspect each school's own material.

Practical city guide

Build a factual shortlist

Use the Ministry of Education and Higher Education private-school search to confirm the school and curriculum. Families commonly compare British, American, International Baccalaureate, Indian and other national curricula, but the right choice also depends on the child's previous year group, language needs, planned destination after Qatar and available place.

Named schools in Doha include Doha College, Compass International School Doha and Park House English School. These are examples for fee comparison, not endorsements. Visit the campus, read the current inspection or accreditation information available to you and ask the school to confirm the exact year group and waiting-list position in writing.

Compare published fees by academic year

Tuition alone does not show the first-year cash requirement.

Doha College's 2026-27 schedule states QAR 13,717 per term for Years 1 to 6, equal to QAR 41,151 annual tuition, plus an annual QAR 8,000 capital charge. It also lists a QAR 2,000 seat-booking fee, QAR 3,650 registration fee and QAR 1,000 stationery deposit.

Compass International School Doha's 2026-27 Madinat Khalifa schedule states QAR 62,117 tuition and QAR 3,866 resources for Years 1 to 6. Its published application and assessment fees are QAR 578 each, with a QAR 2,000 seat fee. Park House's latest published schedule checked for this guide states QAR 31,651 tuition for Years 3 to 6, plus published application, assessment, registration and advance-deposit charges. Confirm the academic year before relying on that last schedule.

Always obtain the fee sheet for the child's actual year group. Add transport, uniform, devices, meals, trips, examinations, learning support and activities. Ask which payments are refundable if the family cannot complete residence formalities or later withdraws.

Prepare admissions and residence records

A completed enquiry is not a confirmed place.

Ask each school for the application timetable, assessment, required reports, passport and QID records, vaccination record, photographs, transfer certificate and any attestation or translation. Requirements vary. Never obtain an expensive certificate from abroad until the school confirms the form and authentication it will accept.

Qatar's compulsory-education platform states that children aged 6 to 18 must be registered in a government or private school, or have education outside Qatar verified where applicable. The same issue can affect family residence sponsorship. Keep the final enrolment record with the child's residence file.

Checklist: Licensed-school status checked; Correct curriculum and year group confirmed; Written place or waiting-list status obtained; Assessment requirements completed; Transfer records accepted; Vaccination records prepared; Full fee sheet obtained; Refund and withdrawal terms read.

Test the family timetable

The school run must work with the actual construction working day.

Record arrival, collection, bus timing, after-school care, term dates and closure days. Test the route from likely homes during school traffic. If both adults work, plan illness, early collection, school holidays and the period before a driving licence is available.

School transport can reduce driving but adds cost and a longer day. Ask for the route, collection window, supervision, refund rules and whether service is guaranteed for the intended district.

Read the employer's education benefit

A reimbursement can still leave the family funding large early payments.

Confirm the annual limit per child, eligible ages, approved schools, covered fee categories, payment dates, currency and records required. Ask whether registration, capital, resources, transport and uniforms count. Record what happens when employment begins or ends during an academic year.

Compare the allowance with the complete first-year figure, not tuition alone. Retain invoices and payment records in the form required by payroll.

Doha school admission and fee checks

Choose from confirmed places and written costs.

Required actions: Use the Ministry school search. Ask for the exact year-group fee sheet. Visit the campus and test the journey. Read refund and withdrawal terms. Confirm the employer allowance categories.

Avoid these errors: Never sign housing around an unconfirmed place. Never compare tuition alone. Never assume a transfer certificate format. Never ignore the school-bus day. Never treat an enquiry acknowledgement as admission.

Confirm the licensed school and exact year group

Use the Ministry private-school search to identify the licensed institution, curriculum, location and relevant contact. Then ask the school to confirm the child's entry year from date of birth, present curriculum and completed study. Never assume that matching year numbers across curricula mean the same stage. Keep school reports, assessment material and any support record with the application. The admissions file should state whether the child has made an enquiry, submitted an application, completed assessment, joined a waiting list, received a conditional offer or secured a place.

Qatar's compulsory-education process makes school records part of the family record for children within the stated age range. Check the route that applies to each child and retain the registration or other accepted records. Never treat a submitted school application as sufficient for residence or travel planning. A confirmed place should identify campus, year group, start date, remaining condition and payment required to hold it. Keep the Ministry and school records separately because one confirms regulatory status while the other confirms the child's actual place.

Compare published fees on the same academic-year basis

The checked 2026-2027 schedules show why one Doha school benchmark would mislead. Doha College lists Years 1 to 6 tuition of QAR 13,717 per term, QAR 41,151 across three terms, with separately stated capital, seat-booking, registration and stationery amounts. Compass Madinat Khalifa lists Years 1 to 6 tuition of QAR 62,117 and resources of QAR 3,866, plus application, assessment and seat charges. These are named examples for one year band, not city averages or quotations for another child.

For each shortlisted school, record tuition, application, assessment, registration, seat payment, capital or resources, books, uniform, device, transport, meals, activities and trips. Mark compulsory, optional and refundable items. Preserve the schedule and academic year. Never combine a current tuition page with an old extras list. If a source label is unclear, ask the school and leave the amount blank until the year and item are confirmed. The comparator should receive like-for-like annual figures, not one complete option and one tuition-only headline.

Map fees to due dates and employer reimbursement

Translate annual school cost into the actual application and term dates. A monthly equivalent helps compare an employment package, but it does not fund a registration or first-term invoice. Record every due date beside salary, rent and relocation cash. Treat a seat payment according to the school's written refund and credit terms. Where more than one school application is necessary, show each non-refundable amount at exposure until the family makes a final choice.

Read the employer's education policy against the same categories. Confirm children and ages covered, annual cap, eligible tuition or extras, invoice requirements, approval and payroll timing. A cap is not cash available before the family pays. Deduct support in the calculator only where the selected school and child qualify. Keep the gross invoice, employee payment, approved claim and credited reimbursement as four separate records so an outstanding amount cannot disappear inside the annual package total.

Test school travel before selecting the tenancy

Place each school campus on the same map as the office, current construction project and likely home. Ask the school for bus coverage, charge, pick-up window, supervision and journey time for the exact district. If a parent will drive, test arrival and collection at the relevant time and record access and parking. The nearest school by distance may not give the shortest or most reliable trip. A site employee may leave before the bus or school gate arrangements begin.

Prepare an ordinary-week and disruption-week plan. The ordinary plan covers work start, school run, clubs and collection. The disruption plan covers an early site meeting, late claim submission, child illness, transport failure or project transfer. Record who is authorised to collect the child and how that person receives notice. Add the resulting vehicle, taxi or bus cost to the school option. Housing, school and transport must be tested as one household timetable before the tenancy and fee commitments are made.

Record learning, language and health support before acceptance

Disclose the child's learning, language, access and medical needs through the school's proper admissions route. Ask what assessment is required, what support the named campus can provide, whether additional support is charged and how the plan will be documented. Keep prior reports and specialist records in a secure family file. A school appearing in a directory or using a familiar curriculum does not establish that the required support or clinician is available.

For medication, allergy or emergency arrangements, obtain the school's process and the documents it requires. Confirm which adult can be contacted and who may act if a parent is on site. Keep only necessary health information with the school and preserve the response. If an offer remains conditional on assessment or records, label it accordingly in the housing and travel plan. Never pay a non-refundable long tenancy commitment on the assumption that a conditional school place will become unconditional.

Manage withdrawal, transfer and record release

Read notice, withdrawal and refund terms before accepting the place. Record the deadline for the next term, treatment of seat and registration payments, and what happens if residence, employment or travel timing changes. Ask how final reports and transfer documents are issued. Keep fee statements and receipts outside an employer or school portal that may close after withdrawal. The family should be able to prove the place, year group, payments and notice position from its own lawful file.

At each academic-year change, replace the fee schedule and confirm the next year group. Re-run the school comparison and term cash calendar. On departure, obtain attendance, reports, support records and the education records needed for the next jurisdiction. Close each outstanding fee, refund and employer claim individually. A school account showing zero does not by itself prove that all transfer records have been released, and a released report does not prove that every deposit has been repaid.
