What the role covers

Designer Group is recruiting a Mechanical Quantity Surveyor for its Energy and Industrial division, based on site in Wales on the Purolite project. The surveyor takes the mechanical package from procurement through to final account.

The work covers:

  • preparing and administering subcontract packages
  • procuring mechanical subcontractors and suppliers
  • measuring and valuing the works
  • cost reporting, forecasting and cash flow

The role prepares and agrees interim applications and final accounts, assesses and agrees subcontractor applications and variations, identifies commercial risk and opportunity, and produces the monthly commercial report. Contract administration is under NEC or JCT forms, and the surveyor gives the project team contractual advice on commercial decisions.

Designer Group asks for a degree in quantity surveying or commercial management, at least five years of quantity surveying in mechanical or MEP contracting, and experience of commercial packages on industrial, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, energy or major construction projects. A full UK driving licence is required.

Experience with an M&E contractor, on live industrial or manufacturing sites and under NEC is desirable, as is RICS membership or progress towards chartership.
