What the role covers
Hill International is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor for civil, structural and architectural work in Kolkata.
The projects are buildings of several types, including:
- residential
- commercial
- hotel
- hospital
- fit-out
- industrial or warehouse schemes, depending on what each project needs
Measurement sits at the centre of the role. The surveyor takes off quantities to IS 1200, POMI or similar standards, using tools such as Cost X and AutoCAD, summarises them into bills of quantities or cost plans with bulk checks, and drafts or validates bills of quantities.
Support is given to cost estimating by establishing basic material and labour rates and analysing rates for standard items, and some understanding of the tendering process and its documents is expected. Post-contract work is part of the brief.
The surveyor prepares interim payment recommendations, maintains cost control records and manages change control, and contributes to cost reports, cash flow forecasts, the valuation of variations, the tracking of risk allowances and the preparation of final accounts. The cost effect of materials, labour and methods of construction is assessed through design and construction.
Applicants need a degree in civil engineering and at least ten to twelve years on building projects, with good command of CAD, Cost X and other quantification software, and of Excel and Word.
