Sharjah public works completes a 400 pupil school in 60 days

The Sharjah Department of Public Works has set out the state of its school and nursery programme across the emirate, reporting a 30,000 square metre school completed in 60 days, expansions of two early childhood centres, four government nurseries under construction and further projects at various stages in Al Dhaid, Al Madam, Kalba, Khorfakkan and Dibba Al Hisn. The department's update was published on 7 September 2026. No contract values or contractors are named.

Sharjah city

The department reports that it completed Muhadhab School in 60 days, transforming a 30,000 square metre site into an educational complex for 400 students. The kindergarten and nursery facilities serve 150 children and the building for grades one to four accommodates 250 students. The school has 16 classrooms across the two buildings, libraries, science and computer laboratories, medical facilities, multi purpose play areas and a 117 seat theatre.

Two early childhood centres have been expanded. At Al Sayouh four classrooms were added across 770 square metres for 96 children, and at Al Rahmaniya six classrooms were added across 1,000 square metres for 150 children. Maintenance at Al Qulaia Nursery covered flooring, doors, ceilings, car park canopies, painting, air conditioning and electrical work. Four government nurseries remain under construction, in Al Abar, for the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, and in Al Mawrada, Kashisha and Al Nouf.

The department's update gives areas, capacities and percentage completion. It gives no contract values, no contractor names and no programme dates other than a November handover for the remaining buildings at one school in Al Madam. Nothing has been estimated here to fill those gaps.

The central and eastern regions

In Al Dhaid, construction of Victoria International School in Al Thumama is reported at 73 percent complete. The campus is to include administration buildings, a theatre, a multi purpose sports hall, kindergarten and nursery facilities and classrooms. Playground covering and maintenance works at Al Bustan Nursery are 84 percent complete.

In Al Madam the work includes construction of Tawila Nursery and the expansion of Khalifa Al Hamza American School. The completed first phase of the school expansion comprises a 145 square metre addition with a classroom, activity room and supervisor's office, and a further 365 square metre section with four classrooms, a laboratory and a supervisor's office. The classrooms were handed over at the start of the academic year. Two dining facilities remain under construction, a 340 square metre main facility for 80 students and a 250 square metre kindergarten facility for 50 children, and these and the remaining buildings are scheduled for handover in November.

In Kalba the department completed the second phase of Victoria School, adding laboratories, classrooms, a theatre and libraries, together with a new sports complex including a multi purpose hall and a semi Olympic swimming pool. Secondary school facilities at Al Sidra Private School were also completed, including two indoor sports halls, classrooms, physics, chemistry, biology and computer laboratories, clinics and staff facilities. Al Ghail Nursery in Kalba is complete and Khor Kalba Nursery is 40 percent complete; both provide for children from infancy to four years, with classrooms, indoor and outdoor play areas, multi purpose halls and supporting amenities.

In Khorfakkan the completed projects include Al Lulu'iya Nursery, with 10 classrooms for 200 children, administrative offices, a central kitchen and play areas, and the University Nursery, with three classrooms, a preparatory kitchen and indoor and outdoor play areas. Maintenance at Al Qadisiyah and Shis nurseries covered painting, replacement of reception areas and upgrades to play area flooring. In Dibba Al Hisn, soil improvement works are under way for the North District Nursery, which will have four classrooms and service rooms, and maintenance at Dibba Al Hisn Nursery has been completed.

How the programme is run

The department states that the projects are coordinated with the Sharjah Private Education Authority so that they comply with educational standards, licensing and operational requirements, including safety and early childhood provision. It describes the aim of the programme as increasing educational capacity, strengthening early childhood services and providing safe, modern facilities across the emirate. No individual is quoted in the update and none is quoted here.
