One supplier of bespoke accelerators and networking has reported a quarter that says as much about the buildings going up as about the silicon going into them.

Broadcom reported results on 2 September 2026 for its third quarter, which ended on 2 August 2026. Consolidated revenue was 29.591 billion United States dollars, up 86 per cent on the same quarter last year. Artificial intelligence semiconductor revenue within that was 16.7 billion dollars.

Demand for our custom AI accelerators and networking continues to be very strong. Q3 AI semiconductor revenue of $16.7 billion grew 221% year-over-year, and 54% quarter-over-quarter.

The company guided fourth quarter artificial intelligence semiconductor revenue to 21.7 billion dollars, which it put at 236 per cent above the same quarter a year earlier, and consolidated fourth quarter revenue to about 34.8 billion dollars, an increase of 93 per cent. Non GAAP operating income for the fourth quarter is guided at about 66 per cent of projected revenue.

The rest of the numbers

Operating income on a GAAP basis was 15.955 billion dollars against 5.887 billion a year earlier. On a non GAAP basis it was 20.095 billion. Diluted earnings per share were 2.68 dollars on a GAAP basis and 3.32 dollars on a non GAAP basis. Cash from operations was 14.197 billion dollars and capital expenditure 532 million, leaving free cash flow of 13.665 billion, which the company put at 46 per cent of revenue. Semiconductor solutions produced 20.839 billion dollars of revenue, 70 per cent of the total, with infrastructure software at 8.752 billion. Cash and cash equivalents stood at 23.975 billion dollars at the quarter end against 19.628 billion three months earlier. The board approved a quarterly dividend of 65 cents a share, payable on 30 September 2026 to holders of record on 21 September 2026.

Broadcom achieved record revenue, operating profit and free cash flow in Q3.

Why a results release matters to a construction reader

Custom accelerators and the networking that ties them together are ordered against a delivery date for a building. A supplier guiding to 21.7 billion dollars of accelerator revenue in a single quarter is describing halls that somebody has to have finished, powered and cooled.

That is the reason to read a chip company's quarter on a construction desk. The demand signal in these numbers has already been converted into land, grid connection applications, water agreements and mechanical and electrical packages somewhere. It also explains why data centre consenting has become a live political question in several countries within the same fortnight, and why the electricity cost question keeps arriving ahead of the planning question.

The figures above are the company's own, taken from its results release and its unaudited statements. Guidance is an estimate the company says will vary, and the fourth quarter it describes does not end until 1 November 2026.

A quarter is a photograph, not a forecast. What it shows is a supplier whose order book has already been turned into concrete somewhere else.
