What the role covers

Costain is recruiting a senior quantity surveyor into a highways team in County Durham, on a hybrid basis. The work is main and subcontract account management rather than pre-contract estimating: procurement and auditing of subcontracts, payments, change management, earned value reporting, forecasting, performance monitoring and final accounts. The postholder runs the early warning and change control process, prices contract change, produces budget estimates for the client and collates the evidence behind the main contract application for payment. Commercial and contractual advice to the delivery team sits alongside coaching junior members of the commercial team. Costain names NEC contract experience as essential and asks for highways quantity surveying experience, advanced Excel and an RICS or CICES accredited degree; senior appointees are expected to hold or be close to full membership. Experience of CEMAR, Confirm and the management of 1500 Series and traffic management subcontractors is listed as desirable, as is maintenance and response work.
